Background:

Cai Guo Qiang is an artist who suddenly became popular in the international art scene through his work ”Human Abode: Project For Extraterrestrial No. 7” in the year 1989.This art work was a series of events to show the world outside China about the social oppression and protest against artistic freedom within the country. He uses gunpowder as one of his materials to be used in his artwork and also uses it as a symbol of an artist cum activist. Cia has expanded his horizons as an artist and is also experimenting with social projects and creating site specific installations and he is also actively involved in large collaborative celebrations.
